An Old-Age College Building
"Government Holkar (Model, Autonomous) Science College in Indore: A Legacy of Excellence"
An Old-Age College Building (1891)
Spread over a verdant expanse of 34 acres, Government Holkar (Model, Autonomous) Science College is a distinguished co-educational institution renowned for its commitment to providing quality science education. With a history spanning 132 years, this institution stands as a beacon of academic excellence.
Founded on June 10, 1891, by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar, the college appointed Mr. E.C. Cholmondeley, an Oxford University graduate and Bar-at-law, as its first Principal. Initially affiliated with Calcutta University, it later moved to Allahabad University in 1904 and is currently affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), an A++ NAAC-rated university in Indore.
This legendary journey of Holkar Science Institution had been due to the apostle of the dedication of 34 heads of the institution, who stewarded this institution with knowledge and value-based education. Today, under the able guidance of Principal Major Dr. Anamika Jain, the institution has scaled newer heights in all round development.
In its nascent years, the institution offered a diverse range of courses encompassing English Literature, Sanskrit, Persian, Logic, History, Political Economy, Mathematics, and Science. It aimed at the holistic development of students, many of whom played pivotal roles in the Indian freedom struggle.
The illustrious alumni of Holkar Science College have ascended to prestigious positions as Scientists, Educationists, Vice-Chancellors, Bureaucrats, Sports personalities, Journalists, freedom fighters, army officers, judges, ministers, and more, reflecting the institution's enduring legacy. The hallowed halls of Holkar Science College have witnessed the presence of eminent personalities such as Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya, Noble Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, among others.
Today, Holkar Science College continues its tradition of providing quality education to over 12,000 students. Offering a comprehensive array of science programs, both modern and traditional, the institution boasts dedicated and experienced faculties and state-of-the-art facilities. It provides 20 undergraduate, 16 postgraduate, 1 postgraduate diploma, and 6 Ph.D. programs in the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern, incorporating academic flexibility in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020). The college also houses distance learning Study Centers for IGNOU, MPBOU, Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, and serves as a NPTEL Local Chapter.
